Senior Care Options in San Diego

There are hundreds of senior care communities and homes throughout the county, so it may be challenging to identify the most appropriate fit.

Assisted living: These communities or homes are for seniors who don’t need ongoing medical assistance, but who do need help with Activities of Daily Living. This category includes board and care homes.

Independent living: This setting is appropriate for seniors who are able to live without assistance, but who would like to be part of a community, including help with housekeeping, meals and transportation.

Dementia care: If your loved one suffers from dementia and can no longer live independently, a dementia care facility with memory programs can be an appropriate choice.

Nursing home: For San Diego seniors who require ongoing access to medical staff or equipment, a nursing home, also known as a “skilled nursing facility,” is what is needed. Nursing homes can provide both long-term and short-term care.

Board and Care: Board and Care homes are a different kind of San Diego assisted living. Rather than a large campus with dozens, even hundreds of residents, these are houses with anywhere from 6 to 15 residents. Board and Care homes allow for more personal attention and a less structured, cozier environment.

In-home care: Another one of the senior care options is to hire an in-home care provider. Caregivers can be hired for as little as a few hours just a few days a week, to as many as 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
