Board and Care Homes in San Diego

What is Board and Care?

Board and care homes are a smaller option for assisted living in San Diego County. They have the same license and requirements as large assisted living communities.

They are also called residential care for the elderly (RCFEs) because these are homes in neighborhoods.

If your loved one can no longer live independently, but a larger assisted living community doesn’t seem right, there’s a good chance one of San Diego’s board and care homes may be what you’re looking for.

These homes are licensed for up to 15 seniors, but they generally have just 6.

We have hundreds of board and care homes in San Diego County. That’s why using a senior placement service like Elder Answers can be so helpful. Learn more about our service here.

Is a San Diego Board and Care Home the Right Choice?

This is a very personal decision that only your family can answer. Our senior placement service will guide you in your decision based upon your unique family circumstances. Here are some things to consider.

A board and care home in San Diego may be appropriate for your loved one if they:

  • Need daily hands on assistance getting dressed, showering, walking around, or using the toilet.
  • Have limited mobility.
  • Have dementia and do not wander or have negative behaviors.

A board and care home in San Diego MAY NOT be appropriate for your loved one if they:

  • Are active and will enjoy being social and attending events. Senior assisted living homes can be quiet.
  • Value privacy and need little to no assistance with their Activities of Daily Living. They more commonly have shared living spaces and shared bathrooms. Care staff is close by, to assist at any point.
